titleOfInvention Process for producing perfluorocarboxylic acid
abstract 1473807 Perfluorocarboxylic acids ASAHI GLASS CO Ltd 17 Dec 1975 51704/75 Heading C2C Perfluorocarboxylic acids are prepared by reacting at least one perfluoroalkyl olefin with ozone to produce a petfluoroalkyl ozonide and a perfluoroalkyl aldehyde and converting these intermediates to perfluorocarboxylic acid with an oxidizing agent. The production and the conversion of the ozonide are preferably performed in distinct steps. The reactant olefin preferably has the formula RfCH = CR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP> ,where Rf is a C 4-18 perfluoroalkyl group and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP>, same or different, are H or alkyl. The first oxidation stage is preferably conducted with O 3 containing O 2 or air, in the presence of an inert organicsolvent at 0-120‹ C. with an O 3 : olefin molar ratio of 1 : 1 to 3 : 1. In the second stage H 2 O 2 or a peracid may be employed as oxidizing agent with a molar ratio of agent to ozonide plus aldehyde of 1-10 at 0-150‹ C. Amongst the examples C 8 F 17 COOH and C 6 F 13 COOH are produced.
