titleOfInvention 3,3-dihalopropenyl esters of di and tricarboxylic acids and their use as plasticizers
abstract 1472945 3,3 - Dihalopropenyl esters of di-tricarboxylic acids MONTEDISON SpA 24 April 1974 [24 April 1973] 17911/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises compounds of Formula I wherein each X is a halogen atom and is the same as, or different from any other X, n is 2 or 3 and when n is 2, A is a radical of Formula II and when n is 3, A is a radical of Formula III wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are selected from optionally halogen substituted hydrocarbyl radicals which may be prepared by reacting an optionally halogen substituted di- or tribasic carboxylic acid with a compound of Formula IV or V where X is as defined above. 1,1,1,3 - Tetrachloropropane is prepared by reaction of ethylene and carbon tetrachloride under pressure in the presence of CuCl 2 and n-butylamine and is dehydrochlorinated at 140-150‹ C. to obtain 1,1,3-trichloropropene which is in turn reacted with potassium acetate and subsequently hydrolysed to obtain 3,3- dichloroprop-2-ene-1-ol. Plasticized polymeric compositions comprise a chlorovinyl polymer together with up to 150 p.b.w. of a compound of Formula I per 100 p.b.w. of said polymer and optionally comprise at least one further plasticizer or other known polymer additive.
