titleOfInvention | Process for the production of non-foaming iodophores |
abstract | 1471402 Iodine - polymer complexes DEUTSCHE GOLD UND SILBER SCHEIDEANSTALT 24 Jan 1975 [24 Jan 1974] 3154/75 Heading C3P [Also in Division A5] Non-foaming iodophores are obtained by heating at 50-120 C. for 0À75-15 hours, with thorough stirring, a mixture of (I) 10-30 wt. per cent .of elemental iodine, and (II) 90-70 wt. per cent of an aqueous solution consisting of (a) 7-30 wt. per cent of a polycarboxylic acid and/or polycarboxylate having at least 65 carboxyl or carboxylate groups per 100 monomer units in the polymer chain, and an average polymerization degree of 10-500, (b) 0-20 wt. per cent of an alkali metal iodide, ammonium iodide or lower mono-alkanol, (c) 0-20 wt. per cent of a substantially involatile polybasic mineral and/or hydroxycarboxylic acid which does not reduce elemental iodine, and (d) water to make up the balance to 100 wt. per cent. The polymer (a) is preferably one also containing hydroxy or carbonyl groups. In examples, (a) is poly-(acrylic acid), an acrylic acid/acrolein polymer produced by oxidative copolymerization, or a derivative of the latter produced either by neutralization with NaOH or by neutralization followed by a Cannizzaro reaction, in one case in the presence of formaldehyde; (b), when present, is NaI or KI; and (c), when present, is citric acid or phosphoric acid. |
