titleOfInvention Diagnostic device for a liquid sample
abstract 1471117 Determination of the bacteria content of body fluid KENDALL CO 27 Aug 1975 [29 Aug 1974] 35391/75 Heading G1B [Also in Division A5] A device for determination of the bacteria content of a liquid sample comprises a receptacle 30 having a cavity 90a or 90b, a culture medium disposed in the cavity, means for example needle 22 for establishing communication between the liquid sample and the device, a syringe 20 for withdrawing and expelling liquid and a valve assembly 24 attached to the syringe and to the receptacle and operative to connect the pump selectively to the establishing means, for intake of liquid sample, and to the receptacle, to expel liquid sample into the receptacle. Before use, the inner part 84 of the receptacle can be removed using peel-tab 95 for introduction of culture media into the compartments 90a, 90b. On reassembly, a foil sheet 102 may be secured to peripheral flange 104 of the receptacle to seal part 84 into position. The receptacle may contain an absorbent cellulose pad or sponge 98 to absorb excess sample. The sample may be obtained by inserting needle 22 into a catheter which contains sample or into a tubular member at the other end of which is a swab which carries a mixture of body fluid and added saline.
