Retting.-The fibres of " duda," hibiscus can. nabinis, are decorticated, soaked in water to remove gummy matter, treated with 2 per cent soda, drained, treated in a bath containing mineral oil, a small quantity of sulphuric acid and water, dried, and carded. They may be bleached in a bath containing potassium bichromate and bisulphite of soda. Fibres so obtained are preferably mixed with animal fibres such as wool and may be used as such in the textile industry.
