titleOfInvention Treatment of a liquid material with oxygenating gases
abstract 1470549 Aerating liquids L'AIR LIQUIDE SOC ANON POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES GEORGES CLAUDE 24 June 1974 [25 June 1973] 27997/ 74 Heading B1C A method of treating a liquid (e.g. effluent) with oxygenating gas in a sealed container comprises regulating the quantities of fresh oxygenating gas and recycled oxygenating gas as a function of three parameters, namely the pressure of the atmosphere within the container; the proportion of oxygenating gas in the container atmosphere; and the quantity of oxygen in the liquid. The parameters may be sampled in succession. As shown the liquid in a tank 1 is treated with oxygenating gas O 3 made up partly of recycled gas O 2 and partly of fresh gas O 1 admitted through a valve 7 operated by a controller 10. The pressure P above the liquid is first sensed; if above a pre-determined value the valve 7 is closed and only recycled gas is supplied. If lower, measurement of the oxygenating gas in the container atmosphere, O a , takes place; if this is above a predetermined value only recycled gas continues to be supplied. If below, measurement of the oxygen O e in the liquid takes place. If this is above a predetermined value which constitutes the upper limits of a coating range, only recycled gas continues to be supplied. If below this value and within the working range, the valve 7 is opened to supply also fresh gas. If below the lower limit of the working range, the supply of recycled gas is also increased as by starting up additional compressors 14, 16. In another embodiment (see Fig. 2, not shown) additional compressors are not provided but the oxygen level of the recycled gas is raised by increasing the predetermined value O a . The working range for O e may be 2.5-6 ppm and P may be 30 cms of liquid in the tank.
