1469993 Laminates E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 29 May 1974 [30 May 1973 13 Feb 1974] 23775/74 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions C1 and C3] In forming a laminate, paper is bonded to aluminium foil by an aqueous latex of a polymer which is 10-95% by weight gel polymer and from which P.V.A. (polyvinyl alcohol) is not completely extractable by water, the latex having been produced by polymerizing an aqueous suspension of chloroprene (optionally with a comonomer) in the presence of (a) 3-10 parts P.V.A. and (b) 0À3-2 parts of dialkyl xanthogen disulphide or alkyl mercaptan, the parts being by weight and based on 100 parts of monomer. Methacrylic acid may be present as comonomer, and the latex may be compounded with zinc oxide, magnesium oxide and/or clay, and/or an antioxidant, e.g. 4,4<SP>1</SP>-thiobis-(6-tbutyl-m-cresol). |
