titleOfInvention Layered tablets comprising microcapsules and a method of making them
abstract 1469879 Layered tablet containing microcapsules CHOAY SA 11 July 1974 [12 July 1973] 29226/74 Heading A5B A layered tablet containing controlled release microcapsules comprises a medical layer and external layers, the medial layer containing microcapsules containing at least one pharmaceutically active substance, the external layers each having a thickness of at least 0.6 mm and comprising excipients with or without a further active substance and protecting said medial layer from damage to the microcapsules. The tablet is made by arranging a levelled but uncompressed first external layer, medial layer and second external layer in superposed relationship and compressing the layers together in a tablet-making machine. The microcapsules may contain papaverine hydrochloride, and excipients specified are alphacellulose, corn starch, maize starch and alginates and may be mixed with polyoxyethylene glycol, mixtures of palmitostearic esters of glycerol or cochineal. In Example 1, the microcapsules contain papaverine hydrochloride and the external layers contain as active substances hesperidine methyl chalcone, aspirin and 4-chloro-1-dehydro-methyl testosterone.
