titleOfInvention | Process for preparing acid amides |
abstract | 1469414 Hydration of nitriles to amides SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 18 June 1974 [19 June 1973 3 Aug 1973] 27023/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Acid amides are obtained by hydration of corresponding nitrile compounds in the presence of a copper-containing polymeric catalyst obtained by either (i) contacting a copper salt or complex with a polymer having a basic nitrogenous group either in or linked to the polymer chain, or (ii) polymerizing a vinyl monomer containing a basic nitrogenous group bonded as a ligand to the copper atom of a copper salt or complex. The catalyst may be heat-treated at 50-400‹ C. prior to use. Metallic zinc may additionally be present. In examples, catalysts obtained by treating 4- vinyl pyridine/divinyl benzene or 4-vinyl pyridine/styrene/divinyl benzene copolymers with cupric formate, oxalate, tartarate or chloride, are used in the hydration of the following nitriles: acrylonitrile, acetonitrile, adiponitrile, benzonitrile, phthalonitrile, α- hydroxyisobutyronitrile, # - cyanopyridine, γ- aminocapronitrile, cyanic acid (to formamide) and cyanogen (to oxamide). |
