1467088 Lubricants TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 9 May 1975 [19 Aug 1974] 19552/75 Heading C5F A lubricating composition comprises a mineral oil, e.g. paraffin base, napthene base or mixed paraffin base-napthene base distillate or residual oils, containing 0-01 to 50% of a mixture of heterocyclic nitrogenous compounds distilled from uintaite by subjecting it to cracking at 885-910 F. to yield a fraction boiling in the range 400-650 F. which is sequentially treated with mineral acid to form an acid phase and an acid insoluble first organic phase; hydrolysing the acid phase to provide an acid insoluble second organic phase and an aqueous phase, neutralizing the aqueous phase with a base to yield a third organic phase and aqueous phase and recovering the third organic phase comprising the heterocyclic nitrogen containing mixture. Compounds which are thought to be contained in the mixture include 3-ethylpyridine, 2,3,5- trimethylpyridine, pyridine, pyrrole, 2-methylpyrolle, quinolines, indoles and possible aindines. The composition may also include zinc dithiophosphates as an anti-wear agent and monohydrocarbyl thiophosphonates as dispersants. Numerous suitable examples of the above are specified. Other suitable additives include overbased calcium sulphonates. 0À5 to 5À0% of an oil soluble basic amino nitrogen containing methacrylate polymer derived from a C 4 -C 20 alkyl methacrylate and a dialkylaminoalkyl methacrylate, which copolymer contains 0À05 to 3À5% basic amino nitrogen, may be added as viscosity index improver. A dimethyl silicone may be added as an anti-foaming agent. |
