1466440 Heterocyclic methine dyes FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 27 Sept 1974 [27 Sept 1973] 42191/74 Heading C4P [Also in Division G2] Heterocyclic methine dyes have the formula where R is alkyl of 1-6 carbons, carboxy-alkyl of 1-6 carbons, substituted or unsubstituted sulphoalkyl of 1-6 carbons or substituted or unsubstituted sulphoalkenyl of 2-6 carbons; A completes a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring which may be substituted or have other rings fused thereto; Z is H, methyl or phenyl; B is H, alkyl of 1-4 C, -OH, alkoxy, halogen, nitro, carboxyl, optionally substituted acylamino, alkoxycarbonylamino, alkylsulphonylamino or alkylthio; R<SP>1</SP> is -OR<SP>2</SP> or -N(R<SP>3</SP>)R<SP>4</SP> where R<SP>2</SP> is sulphoalkyl of 1-6 C which may be further substituted, and R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are each H, alkyl which may be substituted, aralkyl or aryl which may be substituted, arylsulphonyl or acetyl, provided at least one of R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> contains at least one sulpho group; X<SP>(-)</SP> is an acid anion and n and p are each 0 or 1.
