titleOfInvention | 2-2-methyl-1-propen-1-yl-1,3-dioxans useful as perfumes |
abstract | 1465512 Propenyl dioxans BASF AG 4 July 1974 [6 July 1973] 29608/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises propenyl dioxans of the general Formula (I) in which each of R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>6</SP> is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl and the total number of carbon atoms in the substituents R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>6</SP> does not exceed 4. They may be produced by reacting dimethyl acrolein with a diol of formula in the presence of an acid catalyst, e.g. sulphuric or sulphonic acid. Preferably the water formed in the reaction is continuously removed and this may be achieved by carrying out the reaction in a boiling solvent which permits continuous entrainment of the water. Suitable solvents are, for example, hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons. For purposes of comparison 2- [1<SP>1</SP> - propen - 1<SP>1</SP>- yl] - 4 - methyl - 1,3 - dioxan is prepared by an analogous method. |
