1465190 Film-forming polymer compositions MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 16 May 1974 [17 May 1973] 21836/74 Headings C3F C3P and C3R [Also in Division A5] Compositions for topical application to skin capable of forming a continuous film on skin which film is adherent, flexible, non-tacky, non-cracking and water-removable in 2 minutes or less, comprise (1) an aqueous emulsion of water-insoluble film-forming polymer having a minimum film-forming temperature of less than 37 C. and (2) 2 to 50 weight per cent of watersoluble film-forming polymer, said percentage being based on the weights of water-insoluble and water-soluble film-forming polymers. The compositions may also contain water-miscible organic solvents, e.g. alcohols, glycols and glycerol, plasticizers, thickeners, modifiers, pigments, perfumes and medicaments. Many suitable polymers are specified and examples describe compositions comprising water; waterinsoluble polymers selected from styrene/ butadiene copolymers, carboxylated acrylonitrile/butadiene copolymers, polyacrylates, ethylene/vinyl chloride copolymers, vinyl chloride/ vinylidene chloride/ethyl acrylate copolymers, vinylidene chloride/butyl acrylate copolymers, ethyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate copolymers and polyetherurethanes; water-soluble polymers selected from polyacrylic acid, hydroxypropyl cellulose and hydroxyethyl cellulose; and optionally glycerol, isopropyl myristate, hydrocortisone, neomycin sulphate, salicylic acid lidocaine hydrochloride, 5-fluorouracil, lanolin, titanium dioxide and ferric oxide. |
