titleOfInvention Light-stabilized linear polyester and process for its manufacture
abstract 1465178 Light-stabilized linear copolyesters HOECHST AG 14 May 1974 [14 May 1973] 21374/74 Heading C3R A light-stabilized linear polyester contains structural units derived from a dicarbonylic acid or ester containing a mono- or polynuclear aromatic ring carrying the substituents -CO 2 H, -OH and X in adjacent positions in the or one ring, wherein X is -C(R 1 )(R 2 )(R 3 ) in which R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are hydrogen or an optionally substituted C 1-4 alkyl group. Preferably the polyester contains from 0À1 to 5 mole per cent based on the total dicarbonylic acid component, of units of the formula The examples describe preparing polyesters from dimethyl terephthalate, optionally with adipic acid, ethylene glycol or 1,4-butanediol and 5- alkyl-4-hydroxy-isophthalic acid wherein the alkyl group is methyl, iso-propyl, see.-butyl or t-butyl.
