abstract | 1464133 Preparation of o-phenyl phenol LAPORTE INDUSTRIES Ltd 18 Feb 1975 [28 Feb 1974] 9130/74 Heading C2C A method of preparing an o-phenyl phenol from a cyclohexanone comprises the steps of forming an o-cyclohexenyl oyclohexanone from the cyolohexanone by condensing the cyclohexanone in the presence of an inherently sulphur-free condensation catalyst i.e. compounds containing sulphur in elemental form or in the form of carbonaceous compounds, e.g. a sulphide or thiol; and inorganic sulphur containing catalyst, and then dehydrogenating the resulting o-cyclohexenyl cyclohexanone by contacting the o-cyclohexenyl cyclohexanone with a dehydrogenation catalyst in the presence of sufficient sulphur in the form of elemental sulphur or an organo-sulphur compound to improve the selectivity of the dehydrogenation catalyst with respect to the formation of o-phenyl phenol. |
