abstract | 1463583 Tetrahydro - quinolines JOHN WYETH & BRO Ltd 26 Feb 1975 [5 March 1974] 15389/76 Divided out of 1463582 Heading C2C The invention comprises novel compounds or an acid addition salt thereof, wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are the same or different and represent a hydrogen atom, a trifluoromethyl group, or an alkyl, aralkyl or aryl radical, any of which radicals may be substituted by alkyl, alkoxy, nitro or trifluoromethyl and an aryl radical or the aryl portion of an aralkyl radical may be substituted by halogen or R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> taken together represent an alkylene chain -CH 2 (CH 2 ) n CH 2 - wherein n is 1, 2 or 3, R<SP>4</SP> represents hydrogen or single or multiple substitution by alkyl, aralkyl or aryl radicals any of which radicals may be substituted by alkyl, alkoxy, nitro or trifluoromethyl and an aryl radical or the aryl portion of an aralkyl radical may be substituted by halogen and when R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> taken together form an alkylene chain the resulting ring may be substituted by one or more R<SP>4</SP> radicals as defined above, Y is chloro, bromo or hydroxy, with the proviso that either at least one of R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> is other than hydrogen or if R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are joined to form an alkylene chain in which n is 2 then the resulting ring is substituted by an R<SP>4</SP> radical which is other than hydrogen, and m is 1, 2 or 3 with the proviso that when R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> taken together represent an alkylene chain then n is equal to m. The hydroxy compounds (Y is OH) are made by treating N-oxides of appropriate compounds related to (I) with an acylating agent and thereafter rearranging and hydrolysing the products obtained; the chloro and bromo compounds (Y is Cl or Br) are obtained from the hydroxy compounds or by treating N-oxides of (I) where Y is H with an alkyl sulphonyl halide. |
