titleOfInvention Method for the preparation of unsaturated ketones
abstract 1463184 Unsaturated ketones SHINETSU CHEMICAL CO 25 June 1974 [26 June 1973] 28144/74 Heading C2C Unsaturated ketones of formula where R<SP>1</SP> is saturated or unsaturated aliphatic, or cycloaliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbyl, R<SP>2</SP> is C 1-6 alkyl or cycloalkyl and R<SP>3</SP> is H or C 1-6 alkyl or cycloalkyl, are prepared by reacting an unsaturated alcohol with diketene in the presence of a tertiary having a boiling point above 130‹ C. and an aluminium C 1-4 alkoxide, the amount of the amine present being from 0À002 to 0À04 moles per mole of unsaturated alcohol and the amount of aluminium alkoxide present being at least 0À002 moles per mole of unsaturated alcohol. A solvent may be present, preferably of boiling point above 150‹ C. Examples prepare 5,6-dimethyl-5- hepten - 2 - one, 6 - methyl - 5 - hepten - 2 - one, 6,10 - dimethyl - 5,9 - undecadien - 2 - one, 6,10,14 - trimethyl - 5 - pentadecen - 2 - one and 6-phenyl-5-hepten-2-one.
