abstract | 1461629 Fire resistant compositions TOYO BOSEKI KK [trading as TOYOBO CO Ltd] 13 Dec 1974 [17 Dec 1973] 53970/74 Heading C3R [Also in Division D1] A fire resistant composition comprises (a) a polyalkylene terephthalate copolyester containing units of the general formula wherein Y is oxygen, C 1-6 alkylidene or a C 3-6 cycloalkylidene group, and (b) a phosphorus compound of the formula wherein R 1 is an optionally substituted C 1-18 hydrocarbon group, R 2 is an optionally substituted C 2-20 hydrocarbon group, x and z are 0 or 1 and n is not less than 3, the phosphorus compound being present in an amount corresponding to 0À05 to 1À0% by weight, based on the total composition, of phosphorus atoms, and the bromine content of the copolyester is from 2 to 15% by weight. The examples describe (a) preparing copolyesters from dimethyl terephthalate, ethylene glycol and one of the following compounds and (b) blending the copolyester with a phosphorus compound having one of the following repeating units the phosphorus compounds having number average molecular weights ranging from 8800 to 12,000. |
