titleOfInvention Particles for and method of reducing oil pollution on water
abstract 1461577 Floating particles used to treat oil-onwater pollution SNAMPROGETTI SpA 9 April 1974 [13 April 1973] 15778/74 Heading C1C Particles capable of floating on fresh water and comprising a body consisting of or containing one or more water-soluble compounds containing N and P in a form assimilable by aqueous microbes and, on the surface of the body a film of paraffin which is solid at room temperature are used in the treatment of oilpollution. The particles are sprinkled on the oil which is floating on water and encourage the biological digestion of the oil. The particle may consist of one or more substances such as NH 4 salts, nitrates, urea, sodium and ammonium phosphates and in particular magnesium ammonium phosphate coated with a paraffin, the particles possibly being in the form of porous tablets, or may be porous substances such as pumice, vermiculite, alumina or foamed rhyolites, impregnated with the substances and coated with paraffin.
