titleOfInvention Polycarbonates containing heterocyclic residues possessing functional groups their preparation and use
abstract 1460205 s-Triazine containing polycarbonates BAYER AG 17 Sept 1974 [18 Sept 1973] 40446/74 Heading C3R [Also in Division C2] A polycarbonate is derived from a bisphenol containing at least one s-triazine ring. The striazinyl bisphenol may be formed in situ from a s-triazine compound and a bisphenol. The polycarbonate may be cross-linked by incorporating a trivalent s-triazinyl compound. The examples describe preparing polycarbonates from (1) phosgene or the bis-chlorocarbonic acid esters of bisphenol A or 2,2-bis(3,5-dimethyl- 4-hydroxyphenyl)propane and (2) (a) bisphenols of the formula wherein the -Z-R-Q grouping is diethanolamino, p-amino-benzoic acid or ethyl ester thereof, sulphanilic acid, glycine, 6-aminohexanoic acid, 2-amino-benzoic acid, 2-aminoethanesulphonic acid, 5-aminoisophthalic acid, 2-oxa-acetic acid, 4-mercaptobenzoic acid, paminobenzamide or p-aminobenzene sulphonic acid amide, such bisphenols being obtained by reacting the 4,6-dichloro derivative of the triazine compound with bisphenol 1, 1,1-bis- (4-hydroxyphenyl)cyclohexane or 2,2-bis(3,5- dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propane, or (b) bisphenols of the formula wherein the -NR<SP>5</SP>R<SP>6</SP> grouping is diethanolamino or anilino, such bisphenols being obtained by reacting the bis-4-chloro derivative of the stilbene compound with bisphenol A. A chain stopper, e.g. p-tert-butyl phenol may be used and in Example 10 a cross-linked polycarbonate is prepared by incorporating cyanuric chloride in the preparation of the bisphenol. In Example 1 the polycarbonate is reacted with toluene diisocyanate and in Example 2 the polycarbonate is stored together with hexamethylolmelamine hexamethyl ether.
