titleOfInvention Thio-substituted a-alkanoyl acetamides and their use as yellow-forming photographic couplers
abstract 1459171 Thio - substituted - α - alkanoylacetamides FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 2 April 1975 [2 April 1974] 13564/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division G2] The invention comprises yellow-forming photographic couplers of the formula wherein X is an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group, Y is H or a group capable of being released on coupling with the oxidation product of a primary aromatic amine developing agent, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are optionally substituted aliphatic groups or together they complete an alicyclic ring, and R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are H, aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic groups. They may be obtained by reacting a compound of the formula wherein R<SP>5</SP> is alkyl or aryl, with an amine of the formula The products are useful both in silver halide emulsions and in developer compositions. Compounds of Formula II above may be obtained by reacting a compound of the formula wherein Z is a halogen atom, with an alkali metal mercaptide of the formula wherein M is an alkali metal, in an organic solvent.
