titleOfInvention Quick hardening cement asphalt composition
abstract 1458136 Cement asphalt composition JAPANESE NATIONAL RAILWAYS DENKI KAGAKU KOGYO KK and TOA DORO KOGYO CO Ltd 2 Oct 1974 [4 Oct 1973] 42697/74 Heading C1H [Also in Division C3] A quick hardening cement asphalt composition for use as a grout for a ballast filled track structure comprises: (a) 100 parts by weight of a cement composition prepared by adding to Portland cement, in amounts based on the Portland cement, 10-50% by weight of a mixture of a calcium aluminate, not being or containing crystalline 11CaO.7Al 2 O 2 .CaF 2 , and calcium sulphate in a weight ratio of 1 : 0À3- 1:3; 0À05-10% by weight of an inorganic salt, and 0À05-3% by weight of at least one of a carboxylic acid, a hydroxycarboxylic acid and a salt thereof, and (b) 30-400 parts by weight of an asphalt emulsion containing 0À2-8% by weight of a polyoxyethylene alkyl phenyl ether, a polyoxyethylene alkyl ether, a polyoxyethylene alkyl ester, a sorbitan alkyl ester, a polyoxyethylene sorbitan alkyl ester and/or a sucrose fatty acid non-ionic emulsifier, and 0À05-2% by weight of a multivalent metal chloride, calculated as the metal ion. The calcium aluminate material may be amorphous 3CaO.Al 2 O 2 , amorphous CaO.Al 2 O 3 , amorphous 12CaO. 7Al 2 O 3 , amorphous or amorphous 3CaO.3Al 2 O 3 .CaF 2 . Numerous examples of inorganic salt are specified but sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate and potassium bicarbonate are preferred. Preferred acids or the salts thereof are citric acid, sodium citrate, potassium citrate, calcium citrate, tartaric acid, sodium tartrate, potassium tartrate and calcium tartrate. The non-ionic emulsifier preferably has the Formula (I), wherein R 1 is alkyl (O 6-18 ) and n is 10-80 or the formula R 2 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) n2 H wherein R 2 is alkyl (C 8-22 ) and n 2 is 8-20. The multivalent metal chloride is preferably AlCl 3 , FeCl 2 . FeCl 3 , CaCl 2 , ZnCl 2 , SnCl 2 , SnCl 4 , BaCl 2 or MgCl 2 . It is preferred that the asphalt has a penetration of 40-300 and that the asphalt emulsion contains 50-65% by weight asphalt.
