abstract 1457300 Water supplies IDEAL-STANDARD Ltd 2 April 1974 [4 April 1973] 14669/74 Heading E1X A sanitary appliance comprises a body which includes a bowl or other receptacle portion, at least one water supply control valve 3, 4 connectible with a water delivery outlet 7 to the bowl, a switch 5 for operating the valve or at least one of the valves and a sensing device 6 for actuating the switch upon the approach of a user of the appliance. Such an appliance is characterised in that the switch, valve(s) and sensing device are all located in one or more recesses or cavities of the body so that they are concealed from a user of the appliance and are remote from the bowl or receptacle portion and its surround. The appliance can be a wash basin provided with two control valves 3, 4 for controlling the supply of hot and cold water to a mixer unit connected to the delivery outlet 7. Such valves 3, 4 are regulated by thermostatic sensing means. The manual control levers 9, 10, which project out of the sides of the body to allow of regulation of the thermostatic sensing means of the mixer unit and of the flow from the mixer, form the subject matter of the referred to Specification 1457299.
