titleOfInvention Anti-pollution catalyst which includes nickel
abstract 1455032 Catalytic element OLIN CORP 19 Feb 1974 [16 March 1973 2 Aug 1973 12 Nov 1973] 7555/74 Heading B1F [Also in Division C7] A catalytic element for the reduction of automobile exhaust pollution comprises a nickelbased alloy support for a nickel-copper catalytic surface layer. Although the element may be formed by depositing the Ni-Cu as a layer having a thickness between 1000Š and 0.1 inches, preferred methods involve the deposition of copper or copper alloy on the nickel-based substrate and heat treating the nickel into the copper layer so that there is a resulting copper concentration gradient through the layer. The nickel alloy support may be in the form of a mesh. It is stated that aluminium and silicon from the nickel support alloy also diffuse into the nickel-copper layer to improve the resistance of the element to the exhaust gases.
