| abstract | 1453167 Skin protective gel HOLLISTER Inc 28 Aug 1974 [4 Sept 1973] 37574/74 Heading A5B Pharmaceutical preparations for topical application for reducing irritation of the skin in the area of a stoma and/or improving the adhesion of a surgical device to the skin comprise a gelatinous mixture of (by weight): 25 to 90% isopropanol; 0.1 to 5% sorbic acid, butyl or methyl parahydroxy benzoate as preservative; 0 to 50% polyvinyl pyrrolidone K-30; 5 to 50% of a film-forming agent chosen from a monoisopropyl ester of polyvinyl methylether and polyvinyl methyl ether; and 1 to 10% of a gelling agent chosen from hydroxy propyl cellulose and polyacrylic acid cross-linked with polyallyl sucrose, the proportions of ingredients being such that the preparation is in the form of a gel which, when applied to the skin, dries to a coating thereon which improves the adhesion of the skin to the adhesive face of an ostomy appliance and also protects the skin against irritation. The preparations may also contain water, and/or a polyoxyethylene cocoamine. |
