1452114 Lubricants SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 17 Dec 1973 58279/73 Addition to 1137819 Heading C5F A lubricant, suitable for use as a cylinder oil, comprises a hydrocarbon lubricating oil together with (a) an oil-soluble basic salt of a naphthenic acid and a Group II metal having an atomic number from 12 to 56 and (b) an oil-soluble basic salt of an aromatic carboxylic acid and a Group II metal having an atomic number from 12 to 56; the amounts of components (a) and (b) being such that the T.B.N.-E (Total Base Numer-Electromeric) of the lubricant is greater than 12 mg. KOH/gm. The additive (a) can be derived from naphthenic acids of average molecular weight 150-750 and the additive can be derived from hydrocarbon or hydroxy substituted acids; the additives (a) and (b) can each be used in amounts of 0À5-20 wt. per cent. In examples a concentrate containing 35 wt. per cent of 1000% basic calcium naphthenate in spindle oil and a concentrate containing 35 wt. per cent of 200% basic calcium C 14 -C 18 alkyl salicylates in spindle oil are added to a blend of distillate and residual lubricating oils. |
