1451833 Heterocyclic anilides VELSICOL CHEMICAL CORP 12 Feb 1974 [7 May 1973] 06343/74 Heading C2C Novel compounds have the Formula I in which Y is hydrogen, C 1-4 alkyl or halogen; R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen, C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy; R<SP>2</SP> is C 1-4 alkyl; R<SP>3</SP> is hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl; X is halogen; n is 1 or 2; and Q is in which Z<SP>1</SP> and Z<SP>2</SP> each independently represents oxygen or sulphur; R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>, R<SP>6</SP> and R<SP>7</SP> each independently represents hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl; and m is 0, 1 or 2. The compounds of Formula I are obtained by reacting a compound of Formula II with an α-halogenoalkanoyl chloride of Formula III preferably in an inert organic reaction medium in the presence of an acid acceptor at - 10‹ to + 25‹ C. with stirring for 15-120 minutes. The compounds of Formula II are obtained from the correspondingly substituted aniline by reaction with a compound of Formula V wherein Hal designates halogen. The starting materials of Formula V are themselves obtained by reaction of the corresponding haloacetal with the corresponding diol of dithiol. Examples prepare compounds of Formulae V, II and I wherein Q is a 1,3-dioxolane, 1,3- dioxane, 1,3-dioxepane, 1,3-dithiolane, 1,3- dithiane or 1,3-dithiepane ring. The compounds of Formula I are herbicides. |
