abstract | 1451765 Oxycarbonylation catalysts ROHM GmbH 26 March 1975 [1 April 1974] 12688/75 Heading B1E [Also in Division C2] A catalyst composition comprises or is formed from a compound of vanadium, chromium, iron, cobalt nickel or copper and when the compound is not a chloride, bromide or iodide, a chloride, bromide or iodide of an element other than vanadium, chromium, iron, cobalt, nickel or copper but not of a salt of platinum, palladium, ruthenium, rhodium, osmium, and iridium. The composition may be used in the oxycarbonylation of ethylene or propylene with carbon monoxide and oxygen for the preparation of saturated and unsaturated carboxylic acid esters (see Division C2). The catalysts may be present as complexes for example with phosphite, N-oxide, aromatic tertiary amine, phosphine or phosphine oxide and prepared by conventional methods. Examples describe the preparation and use of bis-(titanium-IV-triacetate)-oxide with iron-III- chloride and triphenyl phosphine oxide; tris- (benzoylacetonato) - titanium -IV- tetrachloroferrate with triphenyl phosphine; vanadium- III-chloride and copper-II-chloride; vanadium- III - chloride; dihydroxo-hexa-acetato-trichromium-III-diacetate with copper bromide and triphenylphosphine; bis-triethylphosphite-chromium-II-chloride; dipyridino-dihydrates-dihydroxo-chromium-III-chloride; chromium-III-chloride with cobalt-II-chloride and triphenyl phosphine; nickel dimethyl glyoximate with hydrogen iodide and triphenylphosphine; chloro-pyridino-bis (dimethyl glyoximato)-nickel- II; cuprous and cupric chloride and bromide and cupric iodide with phosphine and phosphine oxides and pyridine oxide; copper-II- bromide; bis-triphenyl phosphine oxide vanadium-III-trichloride; chromium-trichloride-tristriphenyl phosphine vanadium-II-dichloridetriphenylphosphine oxide; chromium-trichloride-tris-triphenyl-phosphine oxide; bistriphenyl phosphine oxide-vanadium trichloride; vanadyl - (V) - trichloride - triphenylphosphine oxide; magnesium - tetramethoxycuprate with potassium bromide and triphenyl-phosphine; and vanadium trichloride with pyridine-N-oxide. |
