titleOfInvention Fluorinated urethane-n-sulphonic acid esters
abstract 1451705 Fluorinated polyether-urethane-N- sulphonic acid esters HOECHST AG 4 July 1974 [6 July 1973] 29672/74 Heading C3R [Also in Divisions C2 and D1] A compound (I) has formula where R f is C 6-10 linear perfluoroalkyl, n is 1 or 2, m is 0-4, and p is 4-50. (I) may be made by reacting R f (CH 2 ) n -O-(CH 2 CH 2 O) m -H with OCN-SO 2 Cl to obtain and reacting (V) with polyglycol in inert solvent at above the freezing point of the reaction system and below + 30‹ C. Thermolabile emulsifiers consist of or contain (I), and hydrophobic substances may be emulsified with an aq. system containing (I). Such an emulsion may be used for rendering textiles hydrophobic. (I) decomposes at 90-150‹ C. in aq. solution, preferably at pH <4 or pH>10, with simultaneous loss of emulsifying effect, and hence reemulsification of the hydrophobic substance from the textile is prevented by the decomposition of (I) during drying and curing. The hydrophobic substance may be silicone oil. Also present in the textile treating liquor may be melamine/formaldehyde resin, MgCl 2 , NH 4 Cl, and ZrOCl 2 .
