abstract | 1449640 Powder coating composition; acrylic polymers KANSAI PAINT CO Ltd 23 Oct 1973 [25 Oct 1972] 49301/73 Headings C3B and C3P Thermosetting acrylic powder coating composition comprises: (I) a copolymer having a glass transition temperature of 40-70‹ C. comprising (a) 50-94À5% by wt. of at least one alkyl (meth)acrylate (R<SP>1</SP>= H or Me and R<SP>2</SP>= C 1-17 alkyl) or a 1 : up to 1À5 ratio by weight of said alkyl (meth) acrylate and other vinyl monomers; (b) 0À5- 10% by wt. of at least one hydroxyalkyl methacrylate (R<SP>3</SP>= C 1-4 hydroxyalkyl); (c) 5-40% by wt. of glycidyl acrylate and/or methacrylate; (II) as curing agent a dibasic acid R(COOH) 2 , R being a saturated C 4-11 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical. A typical I comprises (by wt.): 41% styrene, 23% methyl methacrylate, 19% butyl acrylate, 3% ethyl acrylate and 1% hydroxyethyl methacrylate. Other monomers exemplified are ethyl methacrylate, lauryl acrylate, isobutyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile and hydroxypropyl acrylate. II may be adipic, pimelic, suberic, azelaic, sebacic, dodecanedioic, glutanic and brassylic acid. Conventional flow control agents and pigments may also be present. |
