titleOfInvention | Autoxidisable film forming materials |
abstract | 1449010 Oil-modified alkyds DULUX AUSTRALIA Ltd 27 Sept 1973 [28 Sept 1972] 45225/73 Heading C3R [Also in Division C4] A film-forming material is derived from (a) a compound containing an autoxidizable residue of an esterified unsaturated fatty acid and a free carbonyl group and (b) an epoxy compound of the formula where A is H or CA 3 and B is -CH 2 - or -CO-. Preferred compounds: (a) are maleinized drying or semi-drying oils and drying oilmodified alkyd resins. The examples describe film-forming materials derived from (i) maleinized dipentaerythritol safflower fatty acid ester and glycidyl methacrylate, (ii) a linseed oilmodified alkyd resin (derived from linseed oil fatty acids, glycerol and phthalic anhydride) and glycidyl methacrylate, and (iii) a safflower oilmodified alkyd resin (derived from dipentaerythritol or glycerol and pentaerythritol, safflower fatty acids and phthalic anhydride) and glycidyl methacrylate. The film-forming materials may be incorporated in paint compositions with titanium dioxide, cobalt naphthenate drier and mineral turpentine and coated on glass. |
