titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of 2-aryl-2-hydroxyiminoacetic acid
abstract 1447114 Process for the preparation of 2-aryl- 2-hydroxyiminoacetic acid GLAXO LABORATORIES Ltd 5 Feb 1974 [20 Feb 1973] 8382/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for the preparation of a 2-aryl-2-hydroxyiminoacetic acid which is rich in the syn-isomer by reacting an aryl-glyoxylic acid with hydroxylamine at a pH of at least 5À5 in the presence of water and of magnesium, calcium or zinc ions. Examples describe the preparation of 2-(thien- 2-yl), 2-(thien-3-yl), 2-(fur-2-yl), 2-(fur-3-yl), phenyl and 4-hydroxyphenyl-2-hydroxyliminoacetic acids in the presence of magnesium hydroxide, zinc oxide or calcium hydroxide. Fur-3-ylglyoxylic acid is prepared by reacting 3-acetylfuran with selenium dioxide at 100- 120‹ C. in pyridine.
