titleOfInvention | Process for the manufacture of naphthalene-monosulphonic acids |
abstract | 1447085 Naphthalene-monosulphonic acids HOECHST AG 16 Nov 1973 [24 Nov 1972 20 Jan 1973] 53310/73 Heading C2C Naphthalene-monosulphonic acids are obtained by thoroughly mixing together naphthalene and H 2 SO 4 at a temperature of from 140‹ to 185‹ C. until a homogeneous phase is formed and continuously reacting the components in this homogeneous phase at an elevated temperature. The reaction may be completed in a zone separate from a mixing zone. The reaction may be performed in a reactor cascade, a tube reactor or under pressure in a closed apparatus comprising stirred vessels, fractionating columns and vacuum receivers. The water formed during the reaction may be removed azeotropically or by distillation under reduced pressure. Examples are given which illustrate the process. |
