1440273 Polyolefin derivatives LUBRIZOL CORP 3 Dec 1973 55835/63 Headings C3P and C3R [Also in Division C5] Oil soluble dispersants having demulsifying properties comprise reaction products obtained by acylating (I) at least one polyoxyalkylene polyamine of molecular weight at least 200 of formula H 2 N - alkylene(O alkylene) m - NH 2 or of formula R-[alkylene(O alkylene) n NH 2 ] 3-6 where m is 3-70, n is 1-40 provided that the sum of all ns is 3-70 and R is a saturated hydrocarbon radical of up to 10 carbon atoms and valence 3 to 6 with (II) a carboxylic acid acylating agent having at least 8 carbon atoms in an aliphatic substituent derived from an olefin polymer and selected from acids, anhydrides, halides and alkyl esters, in amount of at least 0À001 equivalent of (I) per equivalent of (II). The polyolefin may be derived from ethylene, propylene, butenes, hexene-1, octene-1 2-methylheptene-1, 3-cyclohexylbutene-1, 2- methyl - 5 - propylhexene - 1, 3 - pentene or 4-octene, optionally together with minor proportions of cycloolefins, aryl-substituted olefins and polyenes. The products may be added to lubricating and fuel oil compositions. Many suitable reactants are specified and examples describe the reaction of polyisobutenyl succinic anhydride prepared from chlorinated polyisobutene and maleic anhydride with (1,2 and 4-13) polyoxypropylene diamines, (3) polyoxypropylene triamines and (14) polyoxyalkylene triamines; and the reaction of polyoxyethylene diamines with acylating agents prepared from chlorinated polyisobutene and (15) methyl methacrylate, (18 and 19) acrylic acid, (21) propyl α-chloracrylate, and (22) 3-butene-1,2,3- tricarboxylic acid, 1,2-diethyl 3-methyl ester, or with (17) polyethylene substituted malonic acid dimethyl ester or an acylating agent derived from (20) chlorinated polyethylene and ethyl acrylate; polyoxyethylene triamines with acylating agents prepared from (16) brominated polyhexene-1 and 2-pentene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid, and from chlorinated polyisobutene and (23) triethyl, (24) trimethyl and (25) 1,2-diethyl-3-methyl esters of 3-butene-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid; and polyoxypropylene diamines with (27) stearic acid. |
