titleOfInvention | Method of controlling the thickening rate of unsaturated polyester compositions prior to cure |
abstract | 1438868 Unsaturated polyester resin compositions ROHM & HAAS CO 31 May 1973 [2 June 1972] 26037/73 Heading C3P The thickening rate of an unsaturated polyester resin composition is controlled by incorporating into the composition during or after mixing but prior to cure, from 0À2 to 10% by weight, based on the total weight of the resin content of the composition, of an alkaline earth metal oxide or hydroxide as a primary thickening agent, and from 0À05 to 7 % by weight, based on the total weight of the resin content of the composition, of an organic amide as a thickening controller. In the examples sheet moulding compounds are prepared comprising a polyester prepared from propylene glycol and maleic anhydride, styrene, a terpolymer of methacrylate, ethyl acrylate and acrylic acid, zinc stearate, t-butyl perbenzoate, calcium carbonate, formamide, magnesium oxide, N- methylformamide, acetamide, stearamide, N,N- dimethylformamide, malonamide, furamide, benzamide, an isophthalic moulding resin, poly-(dipropylene glycol fumarate) and chopped glass fibres. They may be moulded in a matchedmetal die mould. |
