titleOfInvention Gas-sensor and method for detecting oxidizable gas
abstract 1438193 A complex metal oxide as a gasdetecting element HITACHI Ltd 6 July 1973 [8 July 1972 27 April 1973] 32379/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division G1] A gas-sensor for detecting an oxidizable gas, comprisies a sensing element whose resistance changes in the presence of the said gas and means for indicating a change in the resistance of the said sensing element, in response to the presence of said gas, the said element being formed from a complex metal oxide having the K 2 MgF 4 -type crystal structure and represented by the general formula A 2-x A<SP>1</SP> x BO 4-# , wherein A is at least one rare earth element of atomic numbers from 57 to 71, yttrium, and hafnium, A<SP>1</SP> is at least one alkaline earth metal, B is at least one transition element of atomic number from 21 to 30, O is-oxygen, x is in the range of 0 # x # 2, and 8 is a nonstoichiometric parameter up to 0À5. The sensor can be used for detecting and estimating a variety of oxidizable vapours and gases, including ethanol, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides.
