titleOfInvention | Flux for brazing |
abstract | 1435858 Brazing or soldering flux CASTOLIN SA 19 Sept 1974 [19 Sept 1973] 40919/74 Heading C7M A flux for brazing or soldering comprises a mixture of compounds including B, H 2 , O 2 and K and contains in wt. per cent 15-30 B, 55-70 O 2 , < 2À5H 2 , 10-25 K with at least 2% of the K being present as one or more polyborates of Formula K 2 OnB 2 O 3 where n is # 5. The flux may also contain up to 2% Si which is combined with O 2 , up to 5% aluminium silicate up to 1% surface active substances e.g. a sulphonate and up to 1% elementary B. The flux can be used as a dry powder, a paste or solution with water or alcohol or as a covering on shaped brazing compounds. In an example 52 parts boric acid, 30 parts potassium tetraborate and 10 parts potassium metaborate were mixed with water to form a paste and used as such or dried and mixed with 10% polyvinyl resin and coated on a brazing rod. |
