abstract | 1435087 Methylene bisthiocyanates IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 Aug 1973 [13 Sept 1972] 42445/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] A methylene bisthiocyanate solution is prepared by reacting a methylene dihalide with ammonium or an alkali metal thiocyanate in a hydroxyl-free nitrile solvent which is an adduct of acrylonitrile with water or with an organic compound containing at least one alcoholic or phenolic hydroxyl group. Specified methylene dihalides are chlorobromomethane, bromo-iodomethane, methylene iodide and methylene bromide; specified nitrile solvents are 3,3<SP>1</SP>-oxydipropionitrile, 3 - methoxypropionitrile, 3- ethoxypropionitrile, 3 - n - propoxypropionitrile, 3 - iso - propoxypropionitrile, 3 - nbutoxypropionitrile, 3 - cyclopentyloxypropionitrile, 3 - benzyloxypropionitrile, 3,3<SP>1</SP> - (methylenedioxy) - dipropionitrile, 3,3<SP>1 </SP>- (ethylenedioxy) - dipropionitrile, 3,3<SP>1 </SP>- [oxybis(ethyleneoxy)] - dipropionitrile, 3,3<SP>1 </SP>- (o - phenylenedioxy) - dipropionitrile, 3<SP>1</SP>,3<SP>11</SP>,3<SP>111</SP> - glyceryltrioxytripropionitrile, 3,31 - [2,2 - bis - (cyanomethyl) - trimethylene dioxy] - dipropionitrile, 3 - (2<SP>1</SP> - methoxyethoxy) - propionitrile, 3 - (2<SP>1</SP>- ethoxyethoxy) - propionitrile, 3 - [2<SP>1 </SP>- (2<SP>11</SP>- methoxyethoxy) - ethoxy] - propionitrile, 3 - (2- phenoxyethoxy) - propionitrile and 3 - (methoxymethoxy)-propionitrile. The by-product of the reaction, ammonium or alkali metal halide, precipitates out and may be removed by filtration or centrifugation. |
