1432928 Powder coating compositions FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 18 Dec 1974 [18 Dec 1973] 54580/74 Heading C3B A powder coating composition comprises a mixture of: (A) a copolymer containing epoxy groups derived from 8-30% by wt. of a glycidyl ester of a monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and 92-70% by wt. of other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers, having a glass transition temp. of 40-90‹ C. and average M.W. 2500-8500; and (B) a carboxyl terminated polyamide or polyether present so as to provide 0À8-1À2 carboxyl groups for each epoxy group of (A). The polyamide may have M.W. 500-3000 and have the formula in which R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are C 2-12 alkylene groups, aromatic, heterocyclic or alicyclic groups and n=1-10. The polyether may have the formula in which R<SP>1</SP> is a C 2-12 alkylene group, an aromatic group, heterocyclic or alicyclic group; R<SP>3</SP> is a C 2-12 alkylene group or a cyclic group containing up to 12 carbon atoms; and m=5-50. The composition may additionally contain cross-linking catalysts, flow control agents, antistatic agents or pigments. |
