titleOfInvention Preparation of inorganic fluoride-free perfluoroalkane sulphonates
abstract 1432533 Perfluoroalkane sulphonic salts BAYER AG 16 April 1974 [16 April 1973] 16433/74 Heading C2C Fluoride-base salts of perfluoroalkane sulphonic acids of general formula where R F is a C 1 -C 10 straight or branched chain perfluoroalkane group, are prepared by the alkaline hydrolysis of the corresponding sulphonyl fluoride in a solvent in which the salt is soluble; precipitating the fluoride ions formed during the alkaline hydrolysis by adding, either before, during or after hydrolysis an inorganic cation which forms an inorganic fluoride having a solubility product in the solvent used of not more than 10<SP>-6</SP>, the equivalent ratio of the base used in the alkaline hydrolysis to the inorganic cation being up to 1, the base being the same as the compound supplying the inorganic cation or being different ; separating the inorganic fluoride and recovering the sulphonate from the solvent. The preferred cation is Ca which may be provided by CaO or Ca(OH) 2 . The removal of the insoluble fluoride may be performed at 0-250‹ C. In the examples C 4 F 9 SO 3 K, CF 3 SO 3 K, C 8 F 17 SO 3 K and are prepared.
