titleOfInvention Recording member for electrophotographic and electrostatic printing
abstract 1432062 Coated recording material LAMSON INDUSTRIES LTD 7 May 1973 [8 May 1972] 21620/73 Heading B2E [Also in Division G2] A combined barrier/conductive under coating for the back surface of electrophotographic and electrostatic printing papers consists of a dried film comprising a water dispersible resin in combination with a water soluble surfactant the surfactant being selected from dodecylbenzene-sulphonic acid salts and di-isobutyl phenoxy ethoxy ethyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride monohydrate. In a typical example a vinyl acetate-acrylic copolymer resin emulsion, dodecyl benzene sulphonic acid sodium salt (anionic surfactant) and water are mixed together and coated on paper. The coating was effective as an electrophotographic substrate when used in combination with a resin bound photoconductive zinc oxide topcoat and was also effective as an ionic or molecular donor or acceptor and used as an undercoating on an electrographic recording member, the dielectric overcoating of which comprised a layer of polyvinyl butyral resin.
