titleOfInvention Antihalation layer
abstract 1431782 Photographic anti-halation layers ILFORD Ltd 12 Oct 1973 [4 Oct 1972 25 May 1973] 45746/72 and 25125/73 Heading G2C An anti-halation layer assembly is formed on a photographic film base by coating on to the film base, which has been treated with a subbing layer or has received a subbing treatment, (i) a coating mixture containing an anti-halation dye and a polymeric binder, e.g. a methyl methacrylatemethacrylic acid copolymer, and drying the layer so formed, (ii) an alkali-metal or ammonium salt of a resin, e.g. of a p-hydroxybenzoic aciddimethylol cresol condensate or of a methyl methacrylate-methacrylic acid copolymer, and drying the layer so formed, and (iii) an organic solvent solution of wax e.g. carnauba wax and drying the layer formed. The layer(ii) prevents migration of dye to the emulsion layer when the film is rolled up and the wax layer (iii) acts as a lubricating layer.
