titleOfInvention Powder coating compositions
abstract 1430559 Powder coating compositions FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 19 Dec 1974 [19 Dec 1973] 54862/74 Heading C3B A thermosettable powder coating composition comprises a mixture of: (I) an epoxy group containing copolymer derived from 5-20% by weight of a glycidyl ester of a monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and from 80-95% by weight of one or more monoethylenically unsaturated monomers; and (II) an anhydride group containing copolymer derived from 5-20% by weight of an anhydride of an olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid and from 80-95% of one or more monoethylenically unsaturated monomers. Both I and II have an average M.W. of 1500-15,000 with no more than 5% thereof having M.W. >20,000. II is present so as to provided 0À4 to 1 anhydride groups per epoxy group of I. A typical I is derived from (by wt.) 15% glycidyl methacrylate, 45% butyl methacrylate, 5% styrene and 35% methyl methacrylate. II may be a copolymer derived from (by wt.) 12% maleic anhydride, 50% butyl methacrylate, 8% styrene and 30% methyl methacrylate I and II may have a glass transistion temp. of 40-90‹ C. The composition may additionally contain one or more of flow control agents, cross-linking catalysts, pigments, plasticizers or antistatic agents.
