1429756 Purifying water BAYER AG 18 June 1974 [23 June 1973] 26915/74 Heading C1C Oleophilic odour- and taste-producing substances are removed from water by treating it with an insoluble macroporous adsorber resin, comprising a matrix based on cross-linked organic polymer containing aromatic nuclei, the polymer being substituted by chloromethyl groups. Some of the Cl atoms may be replaced by reaction with ammonia or amines. In examples surface water and water obtained from the biological treatment of sewage is treated with a polystyrene cross-linked with divinyl-benzene which is chloromethylated and subsequently reacted with aqueous NH 3 . |
