titleOfInvention Process for produicing alpha-sulphophenylacetic acid derivative and certain alpha-sulphophenylacetic acid derivatives
abstract 1429454 α-Sulphophenylacetic acid derivatives; penicillin derivatives TAKEDA CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 July 1974 [9 July 1973 13 July 1973 30 July 1973] 30321/74 Heading C2C α-Sulphophenylacetic acid derivatives of the general Formula (I): wherein R is a substituted or unsubstituted primary alkyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl radical, e.g. the novel compounds in which R is an isobutyl or -CH 2 R<SP>1</SP> radical, R<SP>1</SP> being a C 4-14 branchedchain alkyl group, are obtained by contacting diesters of the Formula II: with mineral acids, organic sulphonic acids or acid ion-exchange resins. The diesters of Formula II may be obtained by reacting α-chlorosulphonylphenyl acetyl chloride with t-butanol to produce α-chlorosulphonylphenyl acetic acid t-butyl ester and reacting this with substituted or unsubstituted primary alcohols, cyclic alcohols or phenols. Penicillin derivatives of the Formula III: or salts thereof, may be obtained by reacting the α-sulphophenyl acetic acid derivatives of Formula I, or acid chlorides thereof, with 6-aminopenicillanic acid or its silyl derivative.
