abstract 1429143 Water softening composition PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 10 May 1974 [11 May 1973 11 March 1974] 20762/74 Heading C1C [Also in Divisions C5 and D1] A water softener composition comprises: (a) from 5 to 95% by weight of a water-soluble inorganic aluminosilicate ion exchange material of the formula wherein x is an integer of from 20 to 30, said ion exchange material being characterized by a particle diameter of from about 1 micron to about 100 microns, a calcium ion exchange capacity of at least 200 mg. eq./g. and a calcium ion exchange rate of at least about 2 grains/ gallon/minute/gram; and (b) from 5 to 95% by weight of an auxiliary detergent builder. In Example V, the builder (b) is sodium citrate, sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium silicate, sodium oxydisuccinate, sodium mellitate, sodium nitrilotriacetate, sodium ethylene diamine tetraacetate, sodium polymallate, sodium polyitaconate, sodium polymesaconate, sodium polyfumarate, sodium polyaconate, sodium polycitraconate, sodium polymethylenemalonate, sodium carboxymethyloxymalonate, sodium carboxymethylsuccinate, cis-cyclohexanehexacarboxylate, cis - cyclopentane tetracarboxylate phloroglucinol trisulphonate and mixtures thereof.
