titleOfInvention Composition for the elimination of mineral oil especially petroleum products by biological degradation
abstract 1426646 Treating oil pollution on water BANQUE POUR L'EXPANSION INDUS - TRIELLE "BANEXI" 12 Feb 1973 [22 Feb 1972] 6804/73 Heading C1C [Also in Divisions B1-B2 and C5] A composition for bringing mineral oil products into the form of a biodegradable emulsion comprises lecithin in combination with at least one non-toxic and entirely biodegradable emulsifier selected from sodium oleyl-isothionate, sodium methylaminoethane sulphonate, sodium lauryl sulphate, secondary sulphonated paraffin, sulphonated alpha-olefin, sarcosinate, 2-amino- 2 - hydroxymethyl - 1,3 - propane - diol, aminomethyl propanol, an ethoxylated C 10 to C 12 fatty alcohol, polyethyleneglycol oleate, with the proviso that the polyethylene glycol oleate is utilized together with at least one of (a) another of the emulsifiers, (b) propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol or aromatic free petroleum solvent or (c) a mineral charge to produce a paste or powder. Optional components are 11- amino-undecanoic acid, one or more biodegradable organic acids or amino acid sources. The organic acid may be lactic acid or an amino acid or fatty acid (both exemplified). The amino acid source may be a vinasse or casein. The composition may be used diluted with water or with propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, or petroleum solvents deprived of aromatic fractions, or mixed with mineral charges to form a paste or powder. In examples, the composition is used in dispersing crude oil No. 2 heavy fuel and sludge oil in water, a crude oil slick on sea water, petroleum deposits in water, oil tanker residues in sea water, placed in a line along sand to disperse an approaching mineral oil slick on water or as a chalk-containing powder dusted on to an oil slick.
