titleOfInvention Stencil sheet and method of making an imaged stencil sheet
abstract 1426298 Thermographic stencil sheet WEBER MARKING SYSTEMS Inc 8 May 1973 [15 May 1972] 21922/73 Heading G2C A stencil sheet comprises an ink-pervious base sheet having an ink-impervious coating thereon of a heat flowable composition of thermoplastic film forming material comprising a cellulose organic ester, and plasticizing material partially but incompletely compatible (i.e. when the plasticizing material is heated with the film-forming material in the proportions used, a homogeneous single phase melt is formed which when cooled to ambient or room temperature forms a two-phase mixture, at least one phase of the mixture incorporating substantial proportions of both the film-forming material and the plasticizing material) with the filmforming material, the plasticizing material containing an alkylene oxide ester or ether of a 12-20C fatty acid or fatty alcohol, having an HLB value of 1À5 to 8, and being in a proportion of 5-65% by volume based on the total volume of the filmforming and plasticizing materials. The alkylene oxide may be ethylene or propylene oxide. The cellulose ester may be cellulose acetate propionate, cellulose acetate butyrate, cellulose acetate valerate, cellulose propionate butyrate, cellulose propionate valerate, cellulose butyrate valerate, cellulose propionate, cellulose butyrate or cellulose valerate. The plasticizing material may also include a mineral oil and a thermoplastic polymeric hydrocarbon resin having a total content of polymerized indenes and/or coumarones of at least 30 wt per cent., in a proportion of 3-60% by volume based on the total volume of the film-forming and plasticizing materials (see Specification 1426297). In Example 4 the composition contains titanium dioxide, chrome yellow, and silica. The stencil sheet has enhanced durability and in preferred embodiments oil transfer is also reduced.
