titleOfInvention | Method for the manufacture of dry charged multi-cell storage batteries |
abstract | 1425248 Dry-charged storage batteries VARTA BATTERIE AG 11 June 1973 [13 June 1972] 27639/73 Heading H1B A method of making dry-charged lead-acid batteries comprises the steps of: completely assembling the battery apart from the filling plugs and forming the plates within the battery container, washing the plates, removing the wash water e.g. by placing the battery in a vacuum chamber and inverting it to remove the wash water under atmospheric pressure, reducing the pressure in the vacuum chamber to 30-120 Torr to remove residual moisture, impregnating the plates with an impregnating solution, e.g. boric acid, inverting the battery to remove the impregnating solution under atmospheric pressure and then reducing pressure in chamber to 30-120 Torr to remove residual solution. Final traces of moisture may be removed by vaporizing a solvent at 60-90‹C e.g. octane, decane, pentanol, butanol or nonane, in the chamber whilst the chamber is under vacuum which solvent condenses on the moisture to evaporate it and the water and solvent vapour are removed. |
