titleOfInvention Thiazolinyl and thiazinyl derivatives of 2-aminobenzimidazoles
abstract 1424773 2-Aminobenzimidazole derivatives E R SQUIBB & SONS Inc 24 Jan 1973 [28 Feb 1972] 3682/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein the or each R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, aralkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, aryloxy, acyl, aroyl, lower alkyl thio, arylthio, trifluoromethyl, nitro, halogen, cyano or amino; R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen, lower alkyl, aryl-alkyl, aryl or alkyl-aryl; and represents a 5- or 6-membered ring, the curved line representing a 2- or 3-carbon atom chain and n is 1, 2, 3 or 4 and acid addition salts thereof. Such compounds are prepared by reacting a benzimidazole of the formula where R<SP>1</SP> and n are as defined above with an aliphatic haloalkyl isothiocyanate of the formula wherein X is Cl or Br and the portion represents a chain of 2 or 3 carbon atoms, one carbon atom of which may include an R<SP>2</SP> substituent other than hydrogen or by reacting a N-thiazolinyl or N-thiazinyl-o-phenylene diamine of the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and n are defined above with a cyanogen halide. The term " lower " is used to indicate a content of up to seven carbon atoms.
